Kimmy's Tips
Make dinner earlier in the day. This I learned a little while ago. It has been a lifesaver for me. When It's time to make dinner it's usually the craziest time in my house. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Kids are hungry and their trying to sneek into the pantry. The kids are also picking on each other or they have practice soon and trying to finish homework. It can be stressful.
I learned to cook dinner in your crock pot our cook in the lull part of your day. This has been awesome. I'll start dinner around 2 pm when all is calm. Than when the kids are ready for dinner I'll I have to do is warm it up. hallelujah!!
Dinner Tonight
Shepherds Pie
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Burger
- 1 sm Onion chopped
- 1 can Green Beans, drained
- 1 can Corn, drained
- 1 can Tomato Soup
- Mashed Potatoes
Directions
- Brown up Ground Beef with onion.
- Add all other ingredients.
- Heat through
- pour into baking dish
- Add Mashed Potatoes on top.
- Bake @ 350 for 30 min.
This is so easy and the kids love it! This is also a great meal to freeze just skip putting in the oven. Freeze than throw in oven when ready!

I haven't made stir fry in a long time. I added chicken and it was so yummy. The kids wolfed it down. This is a great affordable meal! You can add fresh veggies from your garden or freezer. Great way to get your veggie intake. The great thing about making your stir fry is that you can control the amount of sodium your putting in. Check the labels on the sodium content on your favorite stir fry sauces it could surprise you.

We all will have amazing shopping days. So let's brag about it. I'll share some of my great savings and you do the same. This is when it gets exciting.Today I went to Wal-Mart and Priced matched, I bought Kellogg's Rice Krispies for 2.18 and had a coupon for 1.50/1. So that makes the cereal .68 a box!!! I bought 5. Well on the box there was a coupon for a $1.oo off Marshmallows. I bought the Great Value brand for 1.16. With the coupon I paid .16 for each! So I bought 5 bags of marshmallows for .97!! That's wicked awesome! Making Rice Krispie treats just got cheap!!

Dinner Tonight
If you have a few ingredients but don't know what kind of meal to make here is one for you. This Recipe comes from mom. So simple so yummy.
Ingredients Peal and slice potatoes the long way Layer them in the baking dish with Carrots and onion Pour some water in about 1/2 c. Sprinkle with SnP Place chicken on top Season Chicken Cut up butter and scatter through out dish. Cover and cook for an 1hr @350. May take longer depending on how much you made. Serve with Rolls. Yum.

Ingredients - Chicken-any style I love this with Drumsticks
- Potatoes -as much as your family will eat
- Carrots- cut thin in sticks
- Small Onion sliced
- 1/2 cup Butter or 1 cup butter- depending on how much your making.
Directions
My kids gobble this up. The potatoes come out so tender and buttery. If you don't like onion still add them to the dish. The onions really give it it's flavor.

- Saute onion with butter till onion is soft
- Add flour, stir and let flour cook off for 1 minute
- add all ingredients and cook till thick
- line pie pan with one crust
- pour in mixture and top with pie crust
- Bake for 10 min @ 420 degrees
- Bake for another 20 min @375 degrees.
- If your using a pre-made pie crust, you might need to cook the crust a little longer.

The Lingo
You could get lost in the coupon language when you get onto some of the sites. You'll see me using a lot of this lingo. So let me translate:
If Your just filing your coupon inserts and you see me say RP(3/1). This means the coupon is in the Red plum insert that you received March 1st.

Getting Organized
There are many ways you can organize your coupons. Do what is comfortable to you. Just because I like organizing mine a certain way doesn't mean you'll like it.
One way is to file the coupon inserts by date.
This method is my favorite. I can see every coupon I have and it makes things so much faster. I can also just take my binder with me to the store and had it laid out for me, very convenient.
If I find a good deal I won’t miss out because I have all my coupons with me. I have many sections in the binder:
•Beverages
•Cereals
•Desserts
•Snacks
•Canned/Other Foods
•Frozen Foods
•Drugs
•Toiletries
•Paper Goods
•Cleaning Products
I use baseball card holders to slip the coupons into.
The front of the binder I have a pouch for a pen,calculator and scissors. I also have in the front a section for the grocery adds.
When I do take my binder to the store with me I keep all the coupons I'm pulling out in an envelope that I can just hand to the cashier. If I'm not taking the binder I pull the one's I'm taking in an envelope to the store with me. If I end up not using some of those coupons that I brought I make sure I take them out and put them in my purse or something so I don't have to do it at the register. You want to make everything smooth for you, the cashier and the people behind you.

Collecting Coupons
To start saving on your grocery bill you really get ahead by using coupons. The best way to receive them is ordering the Sunday paper. Contact Chantel Loftin for the Daily Herald, Deseret News, or Salt lake Tribune at (801)362-0760. Give her my name, Kimmy, and she'll get your order for the papers. Order more than one paper, this way you receive multiple coupon inserts. This is the source of your success. I order 5 Sunday papers each week. I don't receive the weekly paper, just Sunday. I pay $21.82 each month. You pay less for less papers. I save way more than $21.82 in one shopping trip so this for me is sooo worth it.
Online Coupons
There are many on-line sites that you can find coupons on. Here are a few:
You will have to down load a coupon printer so it will print out a bar code for the coupon.
Now some retailers will take them some won't. In Utah the ones that won't are Associated food stores, like Macey's, Reams etc. They won't take them because of some fraud. Smiths, Albertsons and other retail stores take them just fine.
Catalina
You get these at the register at checkout. It is triggered by your savings card or something you bought. They are either cash like "a $3.00 off your next shopping order". Or they are a manufacturers coupon. Always hold on to these.
Blinkies
These come from the black boxes on the isles that blink. These are the ones your kids always take. Don't take them all just a couple. Another great way to save.
Peelies
They are coupons attached to the product. Don't peal them unless your purchasing the product. Try not to peel them yourself, Most cashier's need to. Just make sure you remind them.
Tear pads or Beer Rebates
These are one per household and are on the beer isle. Albertons keep them with the cashiers. There is no beer purchase necessary. Buy the products indicated and mail the rebate and your receipt in and get your money back.
Rebates
You can do mail in rebates or store rebates. Rite Aid has a rebate program. Go to Rightaid.com and sign up. Buy the product, with your coupons for more savings and you'll make money back. At the end of each month you request your check. If you forget Rite aid will email you a reminder.

The Rules
Clipping does take time, but don't sweat it. Once you get your system down it will be a piece of cake. If you don't have a stock pile of coupons already and are just starting out, You won't see a whole lot of savings right off the bat. Give it time, about 2-4 weeks.How To Use Your Coupons
1. Try to buy items that are on sale, not when you need them.
- Why? Well when you match coupons with sale items you maximize your savings.
- The reason for having muliples of one coupon is so you can purchase in bulk for future needs.-->Example= the store is having a 10 for $10 sale on cereal. The cereal is a $1.00. You have 5 coupons for a $1.00 off cereal. So you can get 5 boxes of cereal for FREE!
- You don't need to buy 10 items on these sales.
2. Multiply your savings.
- Use two coupons on buy one get one free's (BOGO). Use one coupon on the item your buying and the item your getting for free and some times you'll get the item your buying for free as well!--->Example= Popcorn is on sale for BOGO. The popcorn costs $1.00. You have two coupon for .50 off Popcorn. This makes the Popcorn your buying FREE!
- Some store, in store coupons will let you use a manufactures coupon with it. This helps double your savings.
3. Build your food storage. Or Stockpiling
- What you'll be doing is stockpiling those items on sale, especially those items you use a lot of. This doesn't mean go hog wild. If there is a crazy deal on chili where you can get it for .25 each with a coupon, does it mean you should stockpile just because it's a great deal? NO. If this item is something your family doesn't usually purchase I would pass. Or you can give those coupons to a family you know that does like the item.
- Stores usually run sale trends. You will notice items on sale again in about 3 months. Rule of thumb, Stockpile on what you usually use. This will help rotate your food storage and keep things from expiring. Planing weekly menu's around your stockpile will help.
- Remember we live off what we buy, we're not food hoarders.
4. Pantry Shopping vs. Panic Shopping
- Your pantry is your daily grocery store. You should create your menu's from what your pantry has in stock. This will keep you from panic shopping and buying items at full shelf price.
5. Learn your stores coupon policies
- You can ask when your at the store next time our give them a quick call.
6. Always get a raincheck!!
- Because a lot of woman are into the coupon craze, you'll notice a lot of the sale items will be gone off the shelves. Go to the customer service desk and ask for a rain check. A raincheck is a promise from the store that when the item is restocked they will sell it to you for the price on the raincheck. You can still use your coupons on a raincheck. you'll have 30 days to use it and are guaranteed that sale price when they stock their shelves again.
- At Smiths you can get a rain check at the register.
7. Let down your hair
- What do I mean? Try not to be brand loyal. I have found that I like other shampoo's or Deodorants from matching a coupon to a sale. Try knew things.
8. Never Use A Coupon Because You have one.
- Just because you get a great coupon on Sunday doesn't mean you should use it on Monday. Wait until the item goes on sale.
9. Price match if you can
- A new store opened in Provo, Buy Low. They have amazing deals. I'm definalty not driving to provo so I'll go around the corner to Wal-mart and price match.
10. Clip Coupons which you think you might not use
- Huh? I have kicked myself so many times for not keeping a certain coupon and realizing later that I could have used it. It really bugs me when that happens!
